The first thing that you experience when you enter the doors to the Illichmann's Sausage Shop is the delicious aroma of smoked meats. The second thing although a bit more subtle is the warm, friendly atmosphere that’s been our trademark for more than 50 years! We have been making home made sausage without additives, fillers or preservatives before it was the popular thing to do, and we continue to pride ourselves on our traditional recipes.

We only sell the best quality meats from high ends cuts of pork and beef, to home made sausage and bacon and everything in between. Our home-style curing, smoking, and fresh ingredients make it evident that our family’s heart and soul goes into making this Calgary’s best sausage shop.

OUR HISTORY

Rose & Joe Meissinger bought Illichmann’s in 1971, having learned their trades by working in various delicatessens after coming to Canada from their native Austria. Wanting to retire in 1999, the shop was taken over by their only son Ken, and his wife Dana, predicting that the family tradition will continue. Since, they have added to their German sausage selection offering cheese and charcuterie boards, Spanish products, and extensive catering options.

Throughout their time in the greater Forest Lawn area they have established a loyal customer base that has spanned generations, and proves that customer service is the foundation to this family business.

Although an average work week for Ken and Dana is 70-80 hours, they still find time to enjoy life outside of Illichmann’s by working out, and riding their Harley’s. You will still see Rose and Joe stop by the shop, and their grandson Brent helping his parents out on the busy days.
